Changes at Chiswick - update April 2010
CSSC and Kings House School announced on 12 April 2010 that they have reached agreement to transfer the operation of the Civil Service Sports Ground at Dukes Meadows to the School.
All existing bookings will be honoured. Once the facilities transfer to the School, CSSC teams and departmental sports days will have preferential booking arrangement over and above any other users, except the School. The pitch charges until 30 April 2013 have been agreed on the basis of an annual increase of 10%. In anticipation of the School reviewing the provision of the bar and catering, the decision has been taken, effective from 1 May 2010, to re-open the clubhouse for teams to provide their own hospitality ie drink and refreshments brought on to the premises.
Any bookings you may wish to make for the forthcoming summer and winter seasons should be sent to Brian Carrick at the Chiswick Ground. Any questions should be addressed to John Butterfield at Chadwick Street Recreation Centre.
Additional information following this decision will be published on the website shortly. Meantime see:
Background
Following a review of civil service usage of Chiswick, and the costs involved with the maintenance of the club and ground, CSSC announced on 3 March 2009 that it would be partially closing the facilities with effect from 14 September 2009.
The changes were intended to allow the majority of usage of Chiswick by CSSC members to continue. They involve closure of the clubhouse and bowling green, and a reduction in grass tennis courts and cricket pitches. The changing rooms would remain in use, and new facilities for light snacks and non-alcoholic drinks would be provided.

Directions
The best way to get there is by train to Barnes Bridge Station
(from Waterloo, Vauxhall or Clapham Junction). From the station
(see map):
- Cross the footbridge alongside the railway and go down the
steps at the far end;
- At the bottom of the steps turn left (not straight
on along the river - if you come to the Civil Service Rowing
Club boathouse, you've gone the wrong way).
- After about 100 yards, bear right, cross the road and
walk along a narrow path (not the road) just before the wall
of the private tennis centre - there's a CSSC sign at the beginning
of the path, pointing along the path to the Civil Service Sports
Ground.
If you're coming by car, Riverside Drive is a turning off the
main A316 road. Coming from the A4 at Hammersmith/Chiswick, it's
the second "real" traffic lights - if you get to Chiswick
Bridge you've gone much too far. Coming northwards up the A316
from Richmond, turn right at the second traffic lights after you've
crossed Chiswick Bridge. The Sports Ground is the last entrance
on the right before you get to the Embankment.
