CSSC London - Management Board members' interests

This page provides a brief introduction to the members of the CSSC London Management Board, and also indicates any specific professional, sporting or personal interests they may have that are relevant to the work of the Board.

Chairman - John Summerfield

I have been a participant at many CSSC events and sports for some 10 years since I came to work in the public sector and am delighted to have recently been selected as Chairman of the London Management Board. My background is in estates and building management.

My interests are varied and wide ranging from competitive sports to the Arts. I've had a go at more sports than I can mention here, but at a club level really it's been rugby, karate, racquet sports (badminton, tennis, squash)rowing, target shooting (Army)and nowadays it's golf. Since my youth I have also frequently been involved in the Arts having worked or been involved in ceramics, painting, singing. A somewhat eclectic set of interests which mean that I have an interest and often some knowledge in most anything that CSSC promotes.

Dave Graham

Members:

Anne Barnes

I am the Secretary of the Comets, Metropolitan Police Sports and Social Association and Departmental Association Representative for the CSSC. I have been in post since 2005.

I am not a very sporty person but I make the most of the numerous benefits of being a member eg the countdown cards and the facilities at Chadwick Street.

Working as a volunteer at the CSSC Games and the Chiswick sports days has been a very rewarding experience.

Anne Barnes

Dave Bower

I am currently the General Secretary of the Defra Sports and Social Association (SSA) and am responsible for promoting sports and social activities in the Department and its Executive Agencies/NDPBs. The SSA also acts as a link between CSSC and the Defra membership and is the central contact point when entering Departmental teams in CSSC events. I have been a member of CSSC for longer than I care to remember and have always had a great interest in sport, whether as a player or as a spectator. Age, infirmity and beer now prevent much participation although cricket and squash still manage to keep me relatively fit.

David Bower

I have been a CSSC and HASSRA member for almost 25 years. I have participated in and/or organised: football, cricket, bowls, quizzes, sports days, scrabble, cribbage, compere/MC'ing - to name but a few things. Currently, I am a BOM member for: CSSC London; and, HASSRA (London and National). I am also the Chair for the Caribbean Challenge sub-group for CSSC London and, I organise darts and pool for CSSC London too. I hope that, having taken so much from CSSC and HASSRA, along with my colleagues I can help give a lot back!

Peter Jones

I have been actively involved in the running of recreational Clubs within CSSC for over 25 years. I helped run the CS Canoe Club and formerly the Sub-Aqua Club. For some 15 years I have been actively involved with helping run the CSSC London Region. My personal hobbies include photography and video, and I work in government communications. Roger Tartufolo

I have been a CSSC member for over 40 years since joining the Civil Service in 1962. In the early years I played Badminton, Table Tennis and Football in various Civil Service Leagues and competitions. Shortly before I moved out of London in 1971 I qualified as a referee and eventually progressed to become a Class 1 referee for the Essex County Football Association. Over the years I have been variously Treasurer and Secretary of the Supreme Court Badminton Club before being elected as Secretary and now Chairman of the Department for Constitutional Affairs (formerly Lord Chancellor's Department). Outside the Civil Service I have also spent several years as coach and manager of a local youth football team. I am married with 2 children, and live in Witham, Essex.

Ray Collins
Manager, Chadwick Street

Previous to joining CSSC as Manager of Chadwick Street and Eltham Sports Ground in February 2002. I had spent the best part of twenty years as a Licensee, running Pubs for Whitbread and Yates’s, with a stint as General Manager for Jongleurs Comedy clubs. With the old bones starting to ache and creek a bit I try to keep fit with a bit of swimming and cycling. My sporting claim to fame was beating Keith Deller in a match while he was the reigning Embassy world darts champion (no sarcastic remarks please). If you would like to learn about any more of my amazing sporting feats you will normally find me around Chadwick Street Rec Centre.
