Barbados
Challenge Summer Sports Day, 17 July 2005
Report
The 3rd CSSC London Barbados Summer Sports Day was held at our
ground at Chiswick & we were gifted with wall to wall sunshine
from start to finish.
The numbers were up on previous years, the kids had a scream,
the mums & dads chilled, & Strawberry the pony sauntered
up & down the 100 metres running track.
All Barbados Challenge events were keenly contested in good spirit
with only one graze on the cheek for St John’s Ambulance
to deal with.
The carrot for the winners was a discounted trip to the wonderful
island of Barbados in late 2006.
A new feature this year was the interactive fencing demonstration
that proved very popular the kids enjoying the contest with their
sponge foils.
Our charity for the day was The British Heart Foundation and a
large amount of money was raised in the 3-mile fun run/walk. The
route was past numerous pubs & to Hammersmith Bridge & back.
We were assured that re-hydration consisted of H2O.
Cockspurs rum provided free samples of their goods & the Pimms
bar provided a refreshing alternative.
After either a hard day’s sport or a leisurely afternoon
with the family 3 fabulous bands took part in the Battle of the
Bands – won by the Comets Steel Band who entertained us with
highly appropriate music & was complimented by the Steve Diggins
disco to round off the day.
Many thanks to all of you who came to compete, support or spectate
and a special thank you to all those involved with organising the
day.
