CSSC Croydon Men’s Football 1st 11 versus The Lions of Home Office
Removals
Eleven-a-side football kicked off for CSSC Croydon on Saturday
4 March. Sporting their new kit, CSSC Croydon’s 1st Men’s
Eleven took on rivals “The Lions” of Home Office Removals
at Croydon Arena.
In a cracking game with silky skills and committed
tackling being exhibited from both sides, CSSC Croydon emerged victorious
with the final score 7 – 4.
There were too many special performances and great moments to be able
to mention them all, but Arran Cussar’s 25 yard lob for the opening
goal for CSSC was at the top of the list. Brilliant! A close second was
an edge of the box rapier from Lions sub Grant Hales that nestled in the
bottom left hand corner. A real corker but unfortunately for the Lions
it was all a little bit too late as CSSC had raced away to a 7 -3 lead
in a crucial twenty minute passage of play midway through the second half.
A
few special mentions must go out, but for me the man of the match was
Jacob Nanu for CSSC who with his lighting pace scored a couple of goals,
created a couple more, and generally gave the Lions defence a nightmare.
For the Lions, Dave Mullany and Dele Shoneye gave the CSSC back four plenty
of problems and Lions skipper Alan Hedley led the midfield by example
but on the day CSSC Croydon were good value for their handsome win. Keep
it
up boys!
Finally I would like especially to thank CSSC Croydon 11-a-side organiser
and manager Kelvin Hartnup for all the effort and support he has put in
to kick start the football for CSSC in Croydon. Kelvin has been as solid
in his support for me and CSSC in organising football as his performance
was on the day at the centre of defence. Nice one Kelv!
Any CSSC member, male or female who would like to get involved with eleven-a-side
football in Croydon should contact Kelvin at Kelvin.Hartnup@homeoffice.gsi.gov.uk or
