Volleyball: 10 November 2006
The CSSC London Regional Volleyball event once again took place at the Brixton
Recreation Centre. This yearly event is held to help promote the sport of Volleyball
at grass roots level, and also to act as feeder into the CSSC National
Volleyball Festival.
The day was attended by people from various government departments,
such as Revenue & Customs, DWP, DTi, Ombudsman, and Natural History
Museum. With skill levels ranging from those who or have represented at
Civil Service or Departmental level, down to beginner.
With the aim of the day being open, and the key message of having fun,
the event was kicked off with a short introduction, followed by a coaching
session, which was taken by a qualified English Volleyball Association
coach concentrating on the basics of the game.
After the coaching session and a short break, the team competition commenced.
Some close fought out games were played with a number of group
positions having to be decided on count back. However a clear winner come
through which was a combined team of players from Revenue & Customs,
and Ombudsman.
This took everyone through to a short lunch break, and recommencement
of further games in the individual team competition. The format of this
competition is to mix up all attendees into separate teams which change
over a number of rounds. With game scores being recorded against each individual,
each person has a clear goal, direct involvement and equal opportunity
to attend the CSSC National Volleyball Festival in Loughborough next year.
It was good to see the senior players encouraging fellow players
on the their teams with everyone getting to know and support each other.
The end of this competition rounded off the day, and the award of prizes.
Although losing two of their players on the day, the Defra team
carried on
showing enthusiasm and commitment and were awarded the 'Team Spirit
Award'.
Finally names of players who were selected for Festival were announced which
brought the event to a close.
